Heating your home – The options

As heating bills rise many people look to how they heat their home and how they could save money through their energy costs. To work out what heating system would be beneficial to your home and family you need to work out what your needs are. Will your heating system be used constantly or temporarily, will your whole house be heated or only certain areas. Looking at these aspects first will help narrow down the options you have. You also need to take into consideration costs, if you want to change your current heating system you may need to invest more money at the start to save money later on, energy efficient systems are ideal for long term savings but do cost more upfront for instillation. Cheaper systems may be cheap to start off with and cheap to install however they are generally less energy efficient and in the long run may end up being more expensive.

There are many ways to keep your home warm, some ways include:

Solar heat, which uses energy from the sun which is stored in a mechanism that then converts it into electricity and eventually heat, which means less reliance from mains electricity and a reduction in cost, however solar panels can be very expensive to install but there are grants available.

Radiant heat, uses electrical ducts or pipes to efficiently transfer heat to floors of your home such like electric underfloor heating, which although has set up costs will run much more efficiently in the long run.

Hydronic heat, which is a type of radiant heat uses water as the main medium to transfer heat around your home, you can get water underfloor heating systems which uses pipes under your floor to send the heated water around you home, this type of heating system is slightly more expensive to set up initially but does have great cost returns.
