Equipment Needed for T-Shirt Printing

The most important piece of equipment needed for t shirt printing is the heat press.  If the printer doesn’t have a top quality heat press then the prints won’t be as clear or colourful as they should be.  The equipment needs to be the right heat and pressure for the transfer or it won’t produce consistent results.

A clam-type press is a good option for beginner printers, or for those who don’t have much space as it has a small frame.  The next step up is the swing press, which allows the operator easier access to the t-shirt and increases speed and accuracy.  Pneumatic presses are more expensive but are much more efficient in their application of heat and pressure; they are also ideal for the mass production of t-shirt printing.

The next piece of equipment needed is a printer, and the choices will usually be between using an inkjet or a laser printer.  The inkjet is cheaper and can produce bright colours with good contrast but its ink is expensive and gives a different texture.  Laser printers produce prints that are much longer lasting but are more expensive and don’t have such bright colours.  Fabric printed by laser printing is much more natural to the touch.

For vinyl manufacturing, vinyl cutter is needed.  These are quite expensive but essential for vinyl t-shirt printing.  Sublimation printers with bulk ink feeding systems are quite expensive but as the bulk ink feeding system saves a lot of ink, they are worth the money.  Their ink comes in bottles rather than ink cartridges. So if you need bulk orders you may be best off rdering them from online printing retailers such as Adlogo.
