How to Get to Belfast, Ireland

For anyone planning a visit to Belfast, the city is served by two airports, Belfast International Airport and George Best Belfast City Airport. Belfast International Airport is located 17miles northwest of the city centre and operates both international and domestic flights, while George Best Belfast City Airport is located three miles east of the city centre and handles only domestic flights within the UK and Ireland. Airlines that operate flights to Belfast include Aer Lingus, Flybe and BMI British Midland.

Although getting to this city can be a little awkward, especially for international travellers, it is well worth the effort. Belfast is home to some surprising treasures, including churches and cathedrals, historic sites, family attractions, National Trust properties, museums, parks and gardens, concert halls and arenas, scenic attractions, theatres and the Titanic’s dock.

One of the major attractions is the city’s rich legacy of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture, which is particularly evident in buildings such as Belfast City Hall, the Grand Opera House, Belfast Castle and Queen’s University.

For history-loving visitors and casual tourists, the local museums and places of interest include the Ulster Transport Museum and Titanic’s Dock, both of which provide an insight into the industrial heritage and history of the city.

For family days out, some of the most popular attractions are Belfast Zoo, the Wildlife and Wetlands Trust and Aunt Sandra’s Candy Factory. Belfast Zoo is one of the most beautiful zoos anywhere in the UK; while Aunt Sandra’s Candy Factory entertains children by letting them watch the process of making handcrafted sweets.
