How To Move To The US

The USA offers more than 60 types of non-immigrant visas. Foreign workers can move to the US and take employment there, temporarily, after securing the necessary work permit from the immigration authority. However, foreigners who intend to permanently settle in the USA, regardless of whether they plan to work there or not, require an immigrant visa. This type of visa needs sponsorship from a family member who is a US national.

An Affidavit of Support is normally required from aliens under sponsorship. This document confirms the financial capacity of either the sponsor or the visa applicant. An Affidavit of Support also guarantees that an alien who wishes to move to USA has a source of income or financial support and will not be a fiscal burden on the government.

There are various types of non-immigrant USA visa‘s. These are required by foreigners who move to the USA, but stay for a definite period of time. The type of non-immigrant visa to be issued depends on the purpose of the visit, a work visa being one of the most common. There are three types of temporary work visa, namely, the H1B (Specialty Occupation Visa), L1 (Intra-Company Transfer Visa) and E (Treaty Trader or Treaty Investor Visa). The H-1B visa offers a three-year residency, which can be extended twice up to a maximum of three more years. L1s are for managers who move to the USA due to job relocation, while E visas are aimed at both individual and corporate investors. Other types of visa are intended for use by anyone seeking entry for business travel, tourism, health care and diplomatic affairs, among others.
