Saving water- Part 2

Bathroom showers – The power shower

Over the years we have been told to help conserve water we should switch from taking baths and instead take showers, however now there is a growth of power showers and although they are very popular they are not the best alternative because they can easily use more water than a bath. However there are some alternatives and other ways you can help conserve water when showering.

Reducing the amount of time spent in the shower is a great place to start if you take short showers you save water, you don’t need to keep a shower running on full power if you are just lathering up.

If you like the feeling of a power shower then an aerated showerhead is a great option because they reduce the amount of water in the flow, but maintain pressure by mixing air in with the water so just like a normal shower head they they produce a steady, even spray. Non-aerating shower heads restrict the water flow and squeeze it through very small holes which produce a hard, massaging water spray. So if you replace your shower head with a more efficient model it is possible to reduce your water consumption by more than half, whilst still enjoying a great shower, which is not only great for the environment but on your bank balance as well as it can reduce your water bills.
