Buying a Private Plate

Today i have been looking at buying myself a private number plate after my post a while back and cherished plates.

I was torn between going to the DVLA direct or to go through a 3rd party broker site, now i’m not saying this is a set rule, but i would shop around.

On the first 3rd party website i went to i was looking at a total of £321.50 which was made up from the £210.00 registration price, VAT at 15% £31.50, and the DVLA transfer of £80.00.

For the same registration of P55 WAX, the DVLA will only charge you £245 which is your total amount no hidden fees.

After a while I thought I’d try one last 3rd party website to see if it would match the DVLA’s price.

For the same plate they were going to charge £220 for the Registration price, £33 for the VAT at 15% and a DVLA transfer fee at £80.

So it was pretty much the same as the first 3rd party site that i tried. So you definitely saving money by buying direct from the DVLA.
