Working in the UAE: The Future for Foreigners
For many the UAE remains an important prospective location for work. Its development over the past few years as a financial empire of the future has led many to look for work in the emirate confederation, but with a considerably different culture to that of the West those looking for possible employment have to be ready to respect the beliefs and traditions of these countries as part of their bid to find work.
Including the major two emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the future of jobs in the UAE looks to be bright, with large amounts of development both in the financial and construction sectors providing an array of opportunities for individuals. Whilst work to foreigners is almost always awarded only on a temporary basis, a large amount of contracting still exists for outside workers, and though nations across the region have increasingly looked to educate their own younger generation, the need for foreign workers is likely to continue for the next two to three decades at a minimum.
Whilst the UAE hopes eventually to be self sufficient when it comes to workers, the continuing expansion in a number of areas has resulted in an excess of niche market jobs. Largely run on the gas and oil industries, of late the emirates have taken steps to broaden the industrial market, developing particularly strong markets in telecommunications, tourism and aviation. Providing an ideal opportunity for educated and skilled expatriates to fill the vacancies, individuals are encouraged to land job offers before visiting the country. However, for the next few years the prospects for jobs in the UAE look promising.
